The “Home for the Aged and Handicapped” formerly known as the “POOR HOUSE” is situated in Untkhana Nagpur. A land given By FATESINGHRAO RAJE BHONSALE to the Catholic Mission.
In the year 1890, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation approached the Bishop of Nagpur, Monsignor Riccaz to take care of the abandoned lepers, the crippled. Other institutions declined the request of the Corporation, but Bishop Riccaz took up the responsibility willingly and joyfully. He entrusted this work of Mercy to Salesian Missionaries of Mary Immaculate.

The Land for the activities of the trust was donated by Shri Chimanlal Maniklal Trivedi. With the passage of time, needs changed and therefore the objectives of the Trust were redefined to address issues which are the need of the hour.
The redefined objectives include educational aid, health care and a host of other socially relevant issues. India, one of the world’s two population superpowers, is undergoing unprecedented demographic changes. Increasing longevity and falling fertility have resulted in a dramatic increase in the population of adults aged 60+. The age old joint family system is being replaced by the nuclear family concept. 5.Maitraban (Nagpur Office)
This project has been created exclusively for the benefit of Senior Citizens by renowned Gandhe family of Nagpur, who are involved in various social activities.
It was thought that a beautiful residence should be provided to Senior Citizens to help them live a respectable & dignified life. It was also decided that a conventional Vruddhashram or Home for the Aged should not be constructed and no financial help should be taken from Government or any other organization.
As the family had no land, search of suitable land for the project started in 1997 and ended after 3 years. A beautiful piece of land (where Maitraban is now situated) of about 10 acres was purchased in July 2000 and it is here that the project has taken shape.
The land was fully barren with murrum and constructing anything like Maitraban was a big challenge. With the blessings of the Almighty and after facing all the odds of nature, labour, quality building material etc., Maitraban was completed in September 2003.
