The organisation is a metamorphosis of a small group of volunteers who made a modest beginning at the end of international women’s decade in 1985 by venturing into the activity of giving relief to women in crisis. Disturbed by the sordid state of affairs confronting women and children in our society the group worked tenaciously mustering support of many like-minded individuals and the family counselling centre was institutionalised.working in coordination with malativaidyasmriti trust, a registered charitable trust, bmfthane has been able to give immediate protection and shelter to women and their children in emergency situation and support them till rehabilitation. This endeavour of short stay home has benefitted many women and has had positive effect indirectly in the communities as well.

8. Stgonsaloashram
It is named after St Gonsalo Garcia, India’s only canonised saint, who was born close by within the fort. Brother Lawrence Lovis Shenoy established the school right next to the orphanage in 1971.Today the Ashram is home to 85 boys between the ages of five and sixteen. These children are joined in the school by others who live near the Ashram in local villages. At the moment there are 150 boys and girls going to the school, which teaches from Junior Kindergarten (KG) to Ninth Standard. In the last few years, the school has expanded in terms both of number of students and the age range taught.As recently as the mid-90s, the children were not getting enough food and they sometimes had to share one biscuit between two of them. The classroom floors were used for sleeping and there were only a couple of teachers. Now, thanks to the hard work of the staff and the generosity of our well wishers we are able to offer the children who come here a good standard of living, with three proper meals a day and a bed in the dormitory.

Shraddhanand Mahilashram started in the year 1927 in memory of Swami Shraddhanandji (Munshiram). Starting as a shelter for women, the now have an old age home in Vasai, the Bal Gruha in Matunga, as well as two hostels.Their main programmes include an orphanage and an old age home.The homes have been operational for decades and are run in a traditional set-up. They run a home for girls, as well as boys up to the age of 5, beyond which they are sent to boys’ shelters.
