After year 2000 ever rising number of suicides in the State of Jammu & Kashmir became a cause of serious concern not only for the Civil Society but also for the private, public and corporate sector. Nothing concrete was being done to address the problem. There was urgent need to provide a set up a system with trained human resource to work towards creating a suicide free society. In 2012 a dedicated team of people discussed the issue with visionary Police Officer Mr. Dilbag Singh; IPS, Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone and after pondering over the issue, an idea was mooted to set up a Registered NGO namely ‘THE – SARA’.

ARADHANA- A ray of hope is an ethical non-governmental organization which was founded on 25th December, 2009 by a 17 year old visionary Monika Mitter. A resident of the Jammu city herself, she started reaching out to the common underprivileged masses amid her school activities out of her own personal interest, but soon this intellectual conception transferred into a movement which was driven by clear goals to tackle the complex challenges of illiteracy and un-enlightenment among the less fortunate children.
