Career in Textile Engineering

What is Textile Engineering?

Textile engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with the industries of garment, color and fabric line. It is a science that is associated with all the activities and methods involved in the process of textile manufacturing.

Textile engineering includes law, principals and scientific techniques used to manufacture and develop all types of yarns and yarn fabrics. It also studies the principals of science that analyze the polymers used to make textile fibers.

The focus of textile engineering is on the tasks related to designing and controlling fiber, machinery and products, apparel and textile processes.

What do Textile Engineers do?

We can see textiles everywhere whether they are clothes, bedsheets, draperies, carpeting, upholstery fabrics or towels. The science working behind the production of all these goods is textile engineering. Textile engineers are involved in designing and developing processes, equipment and procedures to produce all the above types of fibers, fabrics and yarns.

They can work in the plant and do all the work related to Design Engineering, Process Engineering, Production Control & Supervision, Product Development, Technical Sales & Services, Quality Control Research & Development and Corporate Management.

Medical science also relies on textiles for filters of artificial artery and kidney dialysis machines. Jarvik – 7 Artificial Heart is made of 50 percent textile fibers and has Velcro fittings.

Core Subjects of Textile Engineering

Textile engineering includes textile technology, textile chemistry, and textile production. The following are the core subjects that come in textile engineering:

Textile Fiber Yarn Formation

Fabric Formation Chemical Processing of Textiles

Information Technology in Textile Design and Structure of Fabric

Computer Applications in Textiles Design and Structure of Fabric

Textile Testing and Instruments Processing at Textile Lab

Why choose textile engineering?
