Manav Mandir is an institution conceived by Acharya Sri Roop Chandraji Maharaj and is devoted to Sadhana (discipline) and Seva (service). In the direction of bringing a new era and providing real education to the needy section of the society, a Gurukul was started on Mahavir Jayanti Day in 1993 in the temple building, in Roop Vihar, New Delhi, for destitute and orphan children.This is the name of the orphanage which is run by the Trust’s Delhi center for the above said purpose of the trust. It is taking care of orphans. Children are being brought up and are being provided education along with other requirements ranging from food, clothes, shelter and books are taken care off. At present the total strength of children at Gurukul’s orphanage is 36. Out of the total strength of 36 children, 29 are boys and 7 are girls ranging in the age group from 7 to 23. Separate accommodation building is provided by the trust for accommodating boys and girls. Children are sent to SARASWATI BAL MANDIR, a Senior Secondary School of the CBSE Board in Nehru Nagar, Ring Road, New Delhi. A bus is arranged by the trust for ferrying children to and fro from Ashram (Trust premise) to school.

The last study conducted in 2011 reported by analysing data from national family health survey-3 for the year 2005-06 and the population estimation by the census of india presented a bleak future for the children below 18 years of age.million children, about 4% of their population in india and higher than people living in delhi, are orphans. Of them, parents of only 0.3% children have died and rest have been abandoned.the study also presents that the overall estimation of orphan children in % age terms is expected to fall by 2021 although their number will increase from 20 million (2011) to 24 million. Presently, there is no comparative data to indicate either increase or decrease in the number of orphan children.

A combination of socio-economic exigencies, political circumstances and parent’s struggle for survival created a large population of children, living and working on the streets of India. As all across the country street children, an invisible section of the society, continued an invisible struggle on the streets of Delhi too.
