2.Beacon Press

Beacon Press® is an independent publisher of serious non-fiction. Our books often change the way readers think about fundamental issues; they promote such values as freedom of speech and thought; diversity, religious pluralism, and anti-racism; and respect for diversity in all areas of life.

Founded in 1854, Beacon has published many ground-breaking classics, including James Baldwin’s Notes of a Native Son, Herbert Marcuse’s One-Dimensional Man, Jean Baker Miller’s Toward a New Psychology of Women, and Mary Daly’s Gyn/Ecology. In 1971, Beacon printed the Senator Gravel Edition of The Pentagon Papers in five volumes. This groundbreaking achievement marked the first time those papers had appeared in book form. Beacon is also the publisher of Marian Wright Edelman’s best-selling book, The Measure of Our Success: A Letter to My Children and Yours, and Cornel West’s acclaimed Race Matters. Recent publications include Michael Patrick MacDonald’s All Souls: A Family Story from Southie, Rashid Khalidi’s Resurrecting Empire, and titles by Pulitzer-prize winning poet Mary Oliver.

6.Authoright

Having written, self published and successfully promoted his own book Single White Failure, Gareth Howard decided to share his experiences with other writers as they entered the publishing world for the first time. Like so many writers, Gareth experienced rejection after rejection upon submitting his manuscript to literary agents and publishers. He was told repeatedly that his book — whilst ‘good’ — wasn’t commercial or marketable; determined not to take no for an answer, he set out to prove the industry wrong, by successfully self publishing his book — long before self publishing was fashionable — and joining forces with his journalist partner, Hayley Radford, to launch a PR campaign that would see him featured in the Sunday Times, BBC Radio, Boston Globe and Mail, Sydney Morning Herald and NBC’s Today Show amongst others. Gareth knew that what he’d learnt about design, publishing and promotion could help other authors who were being turned down by the traditional side of the industry; today Authoright’s clients include several of the agents and publishers who had rejected Gareth’s book!

7.Aspect Magazine

ASPECT Magazine meets a unique need in current arts publications by publishing in a multimedia format that allows artists’ original works to be seen by other students and artists working in new media art around the world. The audio commentary accompanying each track heightens the magazine’s educational value by providing a catalyst for discussion and interaction with the works. In this way, ASPECT provides those working in media art with access to their contemporaries work and a critical take on the work to help contextualize it within the art world as a whole.

Each issue highlights 5-10 artists working in new or experimental media, whose works are best documented in video or sound. The works can be viewed with or without an additional commentator audio track.

8.Edge Publications, Inc.

EDGE is the largest network of local Lesbian, Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) news and entertainment publications in the world, serving 5+ million dedicated readers from a variety of metropolitan areas around the United States and beyond on the web, mobile web and native apps.

EDGE is a group of journalists dedicated to the presentation of local and national news and information targeted to the LGBT community in a fair, entertaining, non-conglomerate format.

That the LGBT community is a diverse, dynamic group of individuals that are appropriately interested in a diverse, dynamic body of coverage; EDGE therefore reports on a wide spectrum of issues related both directly and indirectly to that community.

That a journalistic organization’s first responsibility is to the truth; as such, EDGE reports objectively on issues facing the LGBT community without an eye to advocacy. However, we often take sides on such issues when we sense the opportunity for progress in what we believe is the best direction for our community and the world. We do not do so to generate discord, but rather to elevate and focus discourse.

That our readers are our most important assets; as a result we strive to engage them in our editorial pursuits, listen to their comments and ideas, respond personally to questions or concerns, and build a pleasing, functional, safe and respectful atmosphere for them to access content, contribute their opinions and communicate with each other.
