4.Central Georgia EMC
As the explanation of a Cooperative implies, Central Georgia Electric Membership Corporation receives purpose and legitimacy from two different directions. First, the State of Georgia passed laws which allow Central Georgia EMC to incorporate as a Cooperative. This state activity provided the charter which enabled the customer-owners to form Central Georgia Electric Membership Corporation. Second, the Board of Directors exercises democratic control, as authorized by the membership. Every year, customer-owners elect 2-3 directors for three-year terms. Customer-owners participate in major decisions and run the corporation through the Board of Directors. Central Georgia EMC customer-owners elect directors at the Annual Meeting, which is usually held the first Wednesday of each August.

Jackson EMC is a member-owned and member-governed cooperative. By the very makeup of our more than 230,000 members, we represent and serve a vibrant and diverse community. Our corporate voice represents the values we support as citizens of that community. As we have for over 80 years, we stand by the cooperative principles, especially our seventh cooperative principle: Concern for Community.
Right now, racial discord is causing our community great pain. When our community is hurting, we are hurting. Our community needs healing that will only be achieved through open hearts, open minds, and a willingness to listen and take peaceful, purposeful steps toward understanding.

7.Amicalola Electric Membership
In a local electric cooperative – like Amicalola EMC – every member owns the business. Once all operating expenses have been covered, the extra, unused funds paid in by the members of Amicalola EMC may be returned to the members as a capital credit refund. Isn’t it nice to know that at Amicalola EMC, you get the credit?
Your board of directors recently approved a capital credits return of more than $1.9 million to members who purchased electric service from the co-op during 2001. This refund is a reflection of monies assigned to these particular members.

10.Colquitt Electric Corporation
The 1973 Georgia Territorial Electric Service Act established retail competition between electricity suppliers in Georgia. This act enables customers with connected loads of 900 kilowatts or greater a choice of their electricity supplier. This act also assigns exclusive power supply to areas throughout the state.
There are exceptions to these assigned areas that give new customers the choice of their power suppliers. These are as follows:
Connected loads of 900 KW or greater, at the time of initial full operation, excluding redundant equipment, located outside municipal limits, may be supplied by any supplier.
In areas annexed to a municipality after March 29, 1973, loads of 900 KW or greater may be served by any electric supplier owning lines in the municipality.
In a wholly new municipality, loads of 900 KW or greater are customer choice.
One supplier’s service line (below 120,000 volts) crossing another supplier’s assigned area creates “corridor rights”.
