- Giambrocco Food Service
In 1933, a 19-year-old Joe Giambrocco quit his five dollar a week job, as a printer’s apprentice, to go into business for himself as a produce peddler. He bought a 1930 Fargo truck, filled it with produce bought at the Cherry Creek Market and began a door to door route. The first day of business, he sold one head of lettuce for eight cents, delivered it to the seventh floor at Ninth and Grant (where the elevator was temporarily out of order.)From street peddling, Giambrocco Produce moved to the street stalls of the Denargo Market and later to the wooden stalls. In 1940, Giambrocco Produce moved to it’s first building at 901 Denargo Market. Over the next decade the business continued to grow and another move was made to 1949 Denargo Market.
Produce was the only inventory carried until 1957 when a few selected canned goods were added. By 1972, growth had again demanded more room for the operation and the move to our present location at 3755 Wazee was made.
When Joe’s son Gary Giambrocco purchased the company in 1985, the trade name “Giambrocco Food Service” was adopted to more exemplify the type of operation we have grown into. Our primary customer base is small restaurants, most of which specialize in Italian, Mexican, or oriental cuisine.
