2.The Dance School LA
With many dance studios and arts programs closing their doors (sometimes permanently) due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Director, Carissa Songhorian, saw a need that continues to be unmet. During this time of loss, opportunities for dance education are diminishing and children are suffering. By creating an online platform, Carissa and The Dance School LA hope to give young students, adults, and other creatives the ability to express themselves again, in an open and caring environment where they can rebuild their confidence and their craft.

3 Rūts Dance Studio
Diny Kim is a professional dancer, teacher, and choreographer based in Los Angeles, California. She began her dance journey in San Diego back in 2010, specializing in the styles of hip hop choreography. She danced & choreographed for the Super Galactic Beat Manipulators, founded by Kevin Brewer of the Jabbawockeez, for 4 years, and is now currently dancing with the world renown dance crew GRV. Diny enjoys traveling & teaching – she has been invited to share her creative passions both home & abroad, most notably in New York & South Korea. Diny has also danced for several artists in the Kpop entertainment industry, such as JUN, & was a choreography director for Soju Commercials Chum Churum, Chilsung Cider, & Milkis by Lotte. Diny is the co-owner of Rūts LA Dance Studio based in Los Angeles, and hopes to create a professional training ground for aspiring artists & dancers in the entertainment industry. Her strong faith in God is where she lays the foundations of her creativity, and hopes to cultivate passion in others to boldly pursue their dreams.

6 Studio A Dance
STUDIO A DANCE began 41 years ago in the dining room of our Los Feliz apartment. Back then it was called Terrance Curtis Dance. When the class was filled to capacity attendance soared to five, but in an effort to reclaim our dining room for Friday evening soirees, Terrance and I found a sublet dance studio on Hillhurst Ave. A big open space with lots of windows and a large sofa at the entrance seemed just perfect. However, one morning we arrived to find the tap teacher who owned the place asleep on that very sofa with empty beer bottles strewn about, and a not-so-pleasant odor. We worried, and rightly so because this scenario continued. The art of dance and alcohol is not a pleasant mix. Next stop: a local community center where classes grew but the dance studio had very little oxygen. But soon we discovered a vacancy back on Hillhurst Ave (a different bay in the same building; tap dancer had checked out), we grabbed the space and Studio A Dance was born. Following a seven-year stint we panicked because the landlord tripled our rent.

10 SCHEDULE Nicholas Dance Studio
Continuing the legacy, Artistic Director, Choreographer, Master Teacher and the Creative Inspiration behind Nicholas Dance Studio, is ‘Ms. Cathie’, the granddaughter of Fayard Nicholas of the legendary, dynamic dance duo, the Nicholas Brothers! She has performed at Carnegie Hall, London, England, taught Master Classes at Stanford and Duke Universities and at Tap Festivals in Detroit, Las Vegas, St. Louis, and Philadelphia to name a few of her accomplishments. For the past 12 years, she was the Tap Instructor at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy (DADA) where she also assisted Ms. Allen in several roles including Co-Directing and performing in the Hot Chocolate Nutcracker (2013-17), Directing Twist in Baton Rouge and Pasadena, and participating in countless Lecture Demonstrations at local schools. Prior to teaching at DADA, she was a DADA student when Ms. Allen first opened the doors in 2000. However, true homage and credits go to Paul Kennedy of Universal Dance Designs for teaching her to become the Tapper Extraordinaire she is today. She became a ‘Kennedy Kid’ at the age of 2 and is proud to carry all of these rich legacies forward.
