Narcisi trained at the world famous Fashion Academy in New York, a prestigious school of design and illustration. In turn, Mary founded her own institution here in Pittsburgh — Clarissa School of Fashion and Design — where she developed and led student curriculums that covered sewing techniques, pattern making, fashion designing, analysis of line and proportion, and fabrics and style trends. ABOUT US: The original 2,000 sq ft location opened with just two employees, 20 wedding dresses, and 25 bridesmaid dresses. Our entire first month sales was less than what we do now in an average hour. The store grew very quickly after leading to two store expansions that almost doubled our floor space. The early days weren’t without obstacles, though. The owners of Modern Bride Magazine sued us for using “their” name so we changed to MB Bride & Special Occasion around 1995. What does MB stand for? We weren’t quite sure ourselves at the time but it just seemed to work. In the end, we decided that it stands for “Most Beautiful” Bride.
