The coconut is grown in Konkan region of Maharashtra having coconut plantation on large scale giving scope to coir industries. Sindhudurd has the area of 16609 Hectares under coconut plantation i.e. 51.64 per cent of the area under coconut plantation in Konkan Region.
The Maharashtra Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Limited (MSSIDC), wholly owned by the Government of Maharashtra, is registered under Companies Act and working since 1962. It has visualized to start the Training and Demonstration cum Production Center for coir products at Kudal which is the one of the Taulka of Sindhudurg district. The MSSIDC will ensure efficient and speedy roll out of the proposed Training and Demonstration cum Production Centre. The progress of the project will be efficiently and cost effectively managed by its expert team of officers and trained personnel to be engaged for this activity.
