- Billroth Blood Bank
On November 30th, 1990, the founder of Billroth, Late Dr. V.Jeganathan launched Billroth Hospitals with a block of 30 beds. After six years, another block with 70 beds was added to the facility. 2003 was a landmark year as Billroth took over Kalliapa Hospitals, a 100 bedded multi-specialty hospital. With the addition of Shenoy Nagar S block in 2007, Billroth turned into a 350 bedded super-specialty establishment. Unfortunately on May 17th, 2007, when the founder was living his dream of making quality healthcare to a common man, he met his sad end. That is when his son Dr.Rajesh Jegannathan, who was only 26 years old then, had to shoulder the entire responsibility and carry forward his father’s dream.

Padmashri Prof. Dr. P. V. A. Mohandas started the Madras Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (M.I.O.T) on 12 February, 1999, as a 70-bed hospital, with full-time doctors, focussed primarily on Orthopaedics and Trauma Care. It was soon apparent that some of the trauma patients, often brought there in a critical condition, came with pre-existing conditions involving the heart, kidneys, etc. In order to stabilise and deliver complete end-to-end care to these patients, these pre existing conditions had to be managed along with providing trauma care. In other cases, patients were brought in with injuries to their organs. Treating such conditions called for the expertise of specialists. Given the nature of trauma care, it was important to have full-time specialists so that the right care could be delivered on time.

Cross Blood Foundation, (CBF) a registered charitable trust, was started in 1999 with an aim to help people in need of blood. Hemnath was a happy five year old until tragedy struck in 1993. He was diagnosed with Leukemia. Mrs. & Mr.N.L. Hari Haran were shattered. Hemnath was their first son. He succumbed to the disease. But the disease came as a “blessing in disguise” as the seed for Cross Blood Foundation was sown through this. CBF is involved in giving shared care services to children who are being treated for blood cancer and other Hematological and Oncological problems in Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children, Egmore and also other hospitals for almost 20 years. Periodical blood donation camps are conducted in various places to meet the demands of blood components for the children who are getting treatment in various hospitals. The foundation also helps in donating certain drugs for treating children with leukaemia and other blood disorders, as and when required. The foundation provides financial assistance for children with Thalassemia and Leukemia for medical and educational purposes..
