Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta is one of the oldest and premier institutes of art education in India. Boasting of a 157 year legacy, the college has always been a seat of academic excellence. GCAC is a co-educational seat of learning and affiliated to University of Calcutta. It offers four years semester based undergraduate (B.F.A.) programmes in Painting, Indian Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Design, Textile Design, Ceramic Art and Pottery, and Design: Wood and Leather. Currently the institution follows the Choice Based Credit System (C.B.C.S.) for its undergraduate programmes.

- The Indian College Of Arts And Draftsmanship
Manmathanath Chakravarty, the famous photographer laid the foundation of ‘The Indian School of Art’ at 240A, Bowbazar Street, Calcutta with just three students in the year 1893. At that time Henry Hover Lock, a student of South Kensington, introduced a new syllabus which aimed to make experts on copying, practical drawing and industrial drawings.
