The institution was recognised for B.Ed Programme for 2 units, by NCTE and affiliated by Gauhati University.The NCTE has granted recognition to this college in the year 2005 with the intake capacity of 100 students. About Us: The Banikanta College was established in January 1967 at the instance of Dr. M.N. Goswami and C. Das, the then Vice Chancellor and Registrar of Gauhati University respectively with the sole aim of catering to Teacher Education in the North Eastern Region of India. It was christened after the name of Dr.Banikanta Kakoti, the great pioneer, researcher and an intellectual giant of Assam. Mr. Radhakanta Das, a retired eminent Professor of Mathematics, took over the charge as the first Principal. After passing through the able hands of five eminent Principals the college was renamed as “Banikanta College of Teacher Education.”

About Us: Barnagar B.Ed. College is located at 900 North longitude over the Tropic of Cancer. It stand by the NH-31. Beside the college stands the Sorbhog Mini Stadium. College, one has to look back to 11.08.1996 when the local MLA, 40 Sorbhog LAC, Assam, Sri Hemen Das, convened a general meeting and put a proposal to institute a B. Ed.
