Future Of Electric Vehicles In India. New normal is the world-famous word of 2020.  Work from home, online pharmacy, shopping online and so on are becoming new normal in this pandemic, but can electric vehicles become a normal concept in India? This initiative aimed to protect the environment, but it has become a necessity rather than an initiative in India due to slowdown in the Indian economy. The price of petrol and diesel is growing suddenly, almost all India cities are becoming a polluting victim. 

The consumer, therefore, requested that Tesla be introduced in the Indian market to brighten the future of Electric Vehicles in India. Nitin Gadkari, the Indian Government’s Minister of Road Transports and Highways, announced Tesla would sell their cars to India in 2021! In earlier 2020, Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, tweeted the same. For a while, the battery charged vehicles were in the news. The launch of the vehicle should provide an impetus for the current work of electric mobility in India. 

Delhi is the most polluting city globally and therefore has a negative influence on Indian air quality due to unhealthy levels (PM 2.5 particles). Over the coming couple of years, the number of consumers shopping or buying food and food through smartphones is bound to grow exponentially, with India pushing towards 5G interconnections and rising the number of Mobile users. The number of supply vehicles in the country is increased as internet penetration continues to expand, as sectors such as e-commerce and food technology are increasing.

What are the advantages of Electronic Vehicles?

There are several advantages of using Electronic Vehicles –

No additional petrol charges.

Although initial electric cars cost slightly more than conventional cars, buying and operating electric cars is normally less costly in the long run. Ergon Energy estimates that the electricity needed to charge the power, especially in developing countries, is approximately one-third on average per km of oil costs.

Environmental friendly and Carbon emission are minimal.

The energy supply is equally critical in the case of EVs. If the atmosphere’s degradation produces electricity as in many cases in developed countries, such as coal-fired power plants, electric cars’ environmental advantages are largely conflicting.

Free from noise – pollution

Electric vehicles have fewer components and are free of internal combustion motors, meaning they are usually quiet relative to conventional vehicles. It also helps to minimise noise pollution, especially in crowded urban areas. The lightweight electric engines often have a faster, higher speed drive over long distances than vehicles using fossil fuels.

Electric vehicle prices

EVs have an outstanding long-term appeal for drivers looking for a cheaper and more reliable means of driving around. The electric car costs differ based on the manufacturer, model, function, and form, as do conventional oil and diesel cars. The environment becomes pollution free when we have a budget for electric cars, and when it is accepted by every one of us, the cost will reduce. In this way, it becomes the dream car of every user.

Home charging is fast and convenient.

Loading your EV at home is cost-effective, easy and quick. Outside your house, you will find a small all-weather charging unit. If installed, after you have parked, you can load your EV simply by plugging into the charging cord. You can charge it like your cell phone. Most EVs can charge a maximum capacity with a home charging port of 7 kW in around 8 – 12 hours so that your car is ready when it is time to go.

What are the disadvantages of Electronic Vehicles?

Along with the several advantages, there are certain disadvantages also –

Issues of infrastructure

Infrastructure is where electric cars are still lacking with conventional vehicles. While electronics technology is continually revamped in major cities, it’s still perfect. An overall anomaly on the highway and smaller urban areas is a public charging station for electric vehicles. The charge time is also essential, while one can charge an EV through a regular wall socket so that an EV owner has to spend too much time for car charging. But this is easier for conventional cars in which you get the fuel in a couple of minutes and your car is ready to go.

Mileage of Vehicles

The concern is: How many kilometres can an electric vehicle be filled up for people around the world when contemplating such a vehicle. Different battery packs, indicating different varieties, and other factors are present.  Therefore, the distance that an EV can travel is important and depends on whether it is used as a shuttle daily or as a means of daily road transport.

Technical assistance

Electronic, electric OEMs are now very much interested in the after-sales support problems on the Indian market. For some years, battery packs are ensured, as the distribution networks have technicians specially trained to accept and handle an EV. Different manufacturers also install wall charging units at the designated consumer location at no added cost.

EV production issues in India

  • The components used in electric vehicles vary from those used in traditional cars.
  • The demand for battery materials such as nickel and cobalt will dramatically raise new demands in the world’s supply chain.
  • It may be important to change battery chemistry, or new modes of transport may emerge to address main supply problems.
  • The change also calls for a modern system for charging cars. Neither is unbeatable and commercial cars’ sales are largely electric by 2050.

How COVID-19 plays an important role in the vision of EVs?

The lock-downs noticeable result was clean air in cities, as cars left the highways, as the people and the users. Satellite photographs display a substantial decrease from car pollution to Delhi and Mumbai in nitrogen oxide and sulphur compounds.  India is unquestionably home to some of the world’s most filthy towns. A positive and welcome shift was due to a reduction of emission levels. For the first time in the three decades, the Shiwalik range of the Himalayas has been visible from Punjab. As lock-downs become easier and roads again fill, we will see a return to previous highs for automotive emissions. Yet people’s experience with air-breathing during lock-downs supports the need for electric cars.

Over the years, the Government has taken many measures to encourage electric vehicles. The scheme FAME, introduced in 2015 with an outlay for 10,000 rupees, was introduced by India. This move is per the government view of Atmanirbhar Bharat, an independent India that does propose not only the sale but also the manufacture of electric vehicles at the domestic level. This action fits with the Government’s vision. Private players are not too far away; TATA Motors is ready to launch their electric car brand with 15 lakhs of rupees and this will be the new future of electric vehicles in India.

From the first electric vehicle built-in 1837 until now, we have seen significant technical improvements and the mindset of people towards the consequences of environmentally friendly vehicles or other mobility solutions. Even if the electric car industry benefits businesses and start-ups in India, there are still many hurdles to be resolved to get EVs ready for mass adoption. For example, the manufacture of electric motor vehicles domestically includes high-cost hurdles.

Likewise, the manufacture of batteries is practically an expensive business. To address these problems, the Indian Government must focus its efforts on fostering technical disruption. To make the future of electric vehicles in India, the Government could also offer improved tax benefits and discounts to prospective car owners and suppliers in future.
