About Outlive

Outlive is a pioneering youth-suicide prevention programme in India, designed for young people between the ages of 18 and 24 who are experiencing distress, self-harm thoughts, or suicidal ideation. It was co-designed with youth who have lived experience, and is led by the Centre for Mental Health Law & Policy (CMHLP) at the Indian Law Society (ILS) in collaboration with partners such as Sangath and Quicksand Design Studio.

One of Outlive’s key offerings is its anonymous, chat-based peer support service, where young people can connect with trained peers to talk openly about their struggles in a safe and non-judgmental space. The initiative also runs several interconnected programs, including youth advocacy and training to empower young leaders, public engagement campaigns that raise awareness and challenge stigma, and storytelling initiatives that share lived experiences to foster understanding and connection.

Outlive provides a growing collection of educational resources, guides, and articles on coping strategies, suicide prevention, and mental health literacy. Its events and workshops extend these conversations into schools, colleges, and public spaces, encouraging community involvement and open dialogue. The platform invites volunteers and collaborators to join the movement, building a participatory and empathetic ecosystem for youth well-being.

The tone of Outlive is deeply empathetic, inclusive, and youth-centric. Rather than focusing solely on crisis intervention, it addresses the broader social and emotional factors that contribute to distress. Its peer-support model helps reduce stigma and creates a sense of shared experience among young people who might otherwise feel isolated. The storytelling and advocacy aspects make the initiative more relatable and human-centered, offering a message of hope and solidarity.

In essence, Outlive is more than just a suicide prevention service—it is a movement that seeks to transform how society understands and responds to youth mental health. Through empathy, education, and empowerment, it strives to make conversations about mental health open, stigma-free, and rooted in community support.
