Prof Dr P B Lohiya, Chairman Indian Academy of Acupuncture Science commenced efforts for recognition of Acupuncture started far ago when his friend Late Gopinath Munde Saheb was deputy CM, Maharashtra. The demand was for Acupuncture as a separate pathy as in China. It was not possible at state level to get law amendments done so with his friends suggestion he approached then health minister Dr Gulam Nabi Azad. With this a commitee of western doctors was appointed to decide future of Acupuncture.No Acupuncturist was part of the debate hence it was in vain. To add to the controversy in 2002-3 a notification to ban Acupuncture pranic healing reiki colourtherapy urinetherapy hydrotherapy hypnotherapy etc was passed. This period was very stressful for Dr Lohiya. Pramod Mahajan saheb -his dear friend helped. He had to approach Sushma Swaraj health minister in NDA through him at a party meeting at Ranchi. Sushmaji was convinced about the wrong amendment of banning systems.
