      1. Chitrakoot Art Gallery<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Chitrakoot Art Gallery is one of the oldest art galleries of Kolkata. There was no commercial space in the beginning of 1980s to display art. Then prominent artists Shyamal Dutta Roy, Ganesh Pyne, Bikash Bhattacharya and Amitabh Banerjee took the initiative to convert the library of the space where Chitrakoot Art Gallery exists, into a gallery displaying modern artists. All famous artists of that period obliged by having shows there. This included artists from Delhi and Mumbai as well. Laxma Goud from Hyderabad and Manjit Bawa from Delhi would use it as their staying dig also in those times. Ramkumar, Paramjit and other outside artist had shows with little response. But slowly Chitrakoot became a famous \u2018 Salon \u2018 where artists felt comfortable and at home.<\/span><\/p>\n
