It was started in the year 1956 under the aegis of The Guild of Service, Madurai District Branch. Deserving senior citizens are admitted here irrespective of their belief, caste, creed, or religion. The Home is situated in Viswanathapuram, P & T Nagar Road, Madurai \u2013 17, in a 1 \u00bd acre land assigned by the Government of Tamil Nadu specifically to run a home for the aged.<\/span><\/p>\n The aim and object of this Home is to cater to the needs of the poor, abandoned, uncared for and homeless senior citizens who are over 60 years of age. We provide them with good food, clean clothing, a nice shelter, and give medical aid totally free of cost. To help them spend their time usefully, the inmates are provided with reading material like newspapers and magazines, and, for their entertainment a TV is also installed. The residents of this Home are happy and healthy. And for their physical activities the senior citizens can take strolls in the fenced ample open space around the Home. Interested inmates among them are also encouraged to maintain a small kitchen garden within the premises. Periodical medical check-ups, yoga and meditation classes are conducted to keep them hale and healthy physically and mentally. Students from the Institute of Social Sciences and other colleges visit the Home to give counseling to the needy.<\/span><\/p>\n There are separate buildings for dwelling, dining, doing meditation, and for the conduct of meetings with all the required facilities. The Help Age India initially donated a generous sum of Rs.7,46,685\/-. The Rajaji Home is supported and run mainly by the donations of kind-hearted and service-minded individual and institutional donors and philanthropists.
